UV Photolysis and Creation of Complex Organic Molecules in the Solar Nebula

چکیده
Two proposed possibilities for the complex organics are that they are a) formed by Streck synthesis in ancient sub-surface aquifers on asteroid parent bodies [2], or b) by accretion of material created in the ISM [3,4]. Measured D/H ratios of the meteoritic amino acid samples imply a low-temperature origin, challenging model a). And dense molecular clouds are nearly opaque to UV penetration, challenging model b).

UV photolysis, organic molecules in young disks, and the origin of meteoritic amino acids
The origin of complex organic molecules such as amino acids and their precursors found in meteorites and comets is unknown. Previous studies have accounted for the complex organic inventory of the Solar System by aqueous chemistry on warm meteoritic parent bodies, or by accretion of organics formed in the interstellar medium. This paper proposes a third possibility: that complex organics were c...
متن کاملSulfur isotopic fractionation in vacuum UV photodissociation of hydrogen sulfide and its potential relevance to meteorite analysis.
Select meteoritic classes possess mass-independent sulfur isotopic compositions in sulfide and organic phases. Photochemistry in the solar nebula has been attributed as a source of these anomalies. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is the most abundant gas-phase species in the solar nebula, and hence, photodissociation of H2S by solar vacuum UV (VUV) photons (especially by Lyman-α radiation) is a relevant...

Interstellar gas and dust constitute the primary material from which the solar system formed. Near the end of the hot early phase of star and planet formation, volatile, less refractory materials were transported into the inner solar system as comets and interplanetary dust particles. Once the inner planets had sufficiently cooled, late accretionary infall seeded them with complex organic compo...
متن کاملThe cometary composition of a protoplanetary disk as re- vealed by complex cyanides
Observations of comets and asteroids show that the Solar Nebula that spawned our planetary system was rich in water and organic molecules. Bombardment brought these organics to the young Earth’s surface, seeding its early chemistry. Unlike asteroids, comets preserve a nearly pristine record of the Solar Nebula composition. The presence of cyanides in comets, including 0.01% of methyl cyanide (C...

425 PERSPECTIVES self-shielding (9– 11). The principle is similar to that of laser isotopic separation of gases, but uses either interstellar ultraviolet (UV) radiation or the light of the growing Sun. In either case, UV radiation dissociates CO molecules. However, owing to the abundance of C 16 O molecules, the radiation penetrating the system runs out of photons capable of breaking up this is...
